Module 3 - Overview of the program & requirements
Lesson Summary
Google Ad Grant is a program offering up to $10,000 per month of in-kind advertising on the Google Search Network for qualifying nonprofits. The ads are text ads that appear with organic search results, marked as sponsored content.
The grant can be utilized to increase awareness, drive donations, recruit members and volunteers, generate sales, increase newsletter signups, or spread messages.
- To qualify for the grant, organizations must be recognized by the IRS as a tax-exempt 501c3 organization for charitable, educational, religious, literary, scientific, or other tax-exempt purposes.
- Government entities, hospitals, healthcare organizations, schools, academic institutions, universities, and fiscally sponsored organizations are not eligible for the grant.
Specific website requirements for the grant include unique organization-specific content, quick loading without broken links, and being secured with HTTPS. The website must also have a clear description of the organization, mission, and activities, substantial updated content, clear navigation, and calls to action.
- Domain verification is required, or approved third-party donation sites can be used as landing pages.
- The website's purpose must not be commercial, limited ads should be present, and they must be relevant and non-obtrusive to users.
Avoidance of annoying pop-ups is advised, as they are disliked by users and may lead to a significant drop-off in site visitors. Google also frowns upon pop-ups, so it's best to avoid them altogether.
